IRW 2000 - Sunday 27th August, Largs

Thankfully, after a poor start, the weather picked up well for competition day. This started off after lunch with the aquajets. The Paisley Rocketeers won as always, but this year Thrust, in their first year of competition, came in a close second. Will they do the unthinkable next year?

Stuart's PML Ariel

One of the nice things about rocketry events is meeting new people. One of the new people we met this year was Stuart. He decided to buy and build a HPR rocket over the week. After much discussion he decided on a PML Ariel. As it was flown on Sunday Morning at Kelburn, the flight was restricted to a G80, and because Stuart didn't have the necessary paperwork, we purchased a motor and flew his Ariel for him.

Stuart and the NSRG

It was a very strange flight. The sustainer managed to poke through the spill hole of the 'chute, which of course didn't open very well after that. However, the G10 and quantum tube rocket survived without a scratch.

NSRG Gliders

Pete and Angela flew a collection of gliders, Mike flew his Saucery 3 and Darren few an Estes ARV Condor.

40th Anniversary International Alphas Fly in Scotland

After the Alphas were flown in England by the North Star Rocketry Group, we decided that they really ought to be flown in Scotland too. We couldn't think of anyone more appropiate than John Bonsor (STAAR), and he insisted that his long time rocketry colleague Bobby Wark (ScotRoc) joined in too. Flying them at the IRW would ensure the largest possible audience.

NSRG Vs Thrust - VB Little Wild Thing drag race

This looked so good on paper. Two Vaughn Brother's Little Wild Things. Motors sponsored by Pete's Rockets. NSRG Vs Thrust. Mike Crewe against Mike Williams. Mr Crewe is a virtual drag race specialist being three laps ahead (at least) of Bob Arnott in their Meaner Machine drag race, by virtue of Bob never fifnishing his rocket and therefore being a no-show. Unfortunately Mr Williams is made of sterner stuff. Not only did he complete the kit, but he turned up and won. Unfortunately there only seem to be pictures of MrCrewe's Little Wild Thing.
