IRW 2000 - Thursday 24th August, Largs

This was the first HPR day. HPR flying took place during the afternoon and as usual was located at Birtlebog farm. It's approximately 10 minutes drive from the Kelburn Countryside Centre. There was open model rocket flying at Kelburn in the evening.

First flight of Shaun's Bullpuppy

Shaun decided to test fly his Bullpuppy on a G, before he went for his UKRA L1 Certification. This was the first time he had prepped a 29mm reload, so it was a good decision to practice before the supervised assemble required for L1. He chose to fly on a G75 Blackjack.

An excellent test flight. Oddly, the piston was still in the airframe after recovery. The 'chute had deployed successfully though, so we didn't worry too much about it.

Mike's UKRA L2 Certification flight

Mike flew his PML Preying Mantis with CPR on a J275W for a flawless certification flight.

Shaun's UKRA L1 Certification flight

For his UKRA L1 Certification flight Shaun chose the H180, but we had left the correct casing back at the pavillion. Not to wory, a H128 would have to suffice. He did seem rather nervous, especially after the mystery operation of the piston on the first flight. However, the relief and joy on his face after his succsessful flight are plain to see.

Again the rocket was recovered with the piston still in the airframe after not much apparent travel. We reckon it must have travelled further, then been pulled back. Otherwise it's hard to see how the 'chute could have deployed.
